first week student exchange in the philippines

-[]On Monday 18 September 2023, I attended a ceremony with campus administrators and Kendari students at 7.00am.

Following this event, I visited other Nueva Ecija campuses for observation. Ma’am Ana and Ma’am Dean Angie Cortez drove us to these campuses using their private cars.

At 8am, I had a meeting with the President Mrs. Feliciana P. Jacoba, EdD. The President was very pleasant and friendly to me and my lecturers. Here, we gave gifts from our university

At 10.00am, we headed to another campus where we had a welcome ceremony. I, San Rizal, felt happy to meet so many people during this event. Later, we met with Ma’am Jamie, a fluent Indonesian speaker.

After that, we had a meeting with the Ebarle police and the Mayor of San Isidro, Hon. Florentino C. Tino, who was very friendly and assured us of the safety of the municipality. During my visit, I had the opportunity to meet with many prominent officials from the sub-district. A regular meeting was in progress, and I was briefed on the various problems that exist in the village. The meeting, which was chaired by the deputy sub-district head due to the busy schedule of the sub-district head, lasted for quite some time.

It is worth noting that the officials were very friendly and communicative with me and my colleagues. After the meeting ended, we had a welcome session and introduced each other. Afterwards, we had lunch with the office staff.
After the meal, we engaged in further discussions with the staff, delving into personal anecdotes along with exchanges on lifestyle and cultural norms in Indonesia and the Philippines.

After the meal, we were escorted to our rooms, which had good accessibility features. My lodging had a range of amenities, including a dedicated dining table, soft beds, adjustable air-conditioning, dedicated clothes storage, and free wi-fi connectivity. The staff kindly invited us to visit the shop opposite the university, where we were given 2000 pesos to spend
.

After a short rest, we explored the campus, the building has 3 floors. We went around at 5pm and found out that the teaching and learning activities here last for 12 hours, from 8am to 8pm, which is very different from Indonesian campuses that finish learning until 5pm.  After the tour, my colleague still came to our room to chat and eat together. After study hours, the neighbourhood was very quiet.

-[]Tuesday 19 September 2023 (visit to partner school NEUST)

After the morning, we went to the partner school at 8am. The partner school here has 10 schools consisting of elementary, junior high, and high school, in fact every school must have a very large canopy, they say the canopy is like a hall in Indonesia, the air here is very hot if the room does not have air conditioning the room will feel very hot.

In the Philippines each grade level has 3 classes and on average there are more boys than girls. In this observation moment we met a lot of new people, especially the officials in each school. Yes, I think it's the same as in Indonesia, the character of the people is not much different, but I think they were very happy and warm to welcome us, the students in each school were very happy when we came, and we invited them to high five to get to know them better 😅.

Here are the schools we visited

The first school we visited was "Gapan East Intergrated School" it is an elementary school with a large field

Then you continue to the second school which is "Cristina David Pascua National High School" this school is new, because it has only been established for 5 years when we were there. The principal's name is "Rogelio T. Dulai" This is a junior and senior high school.

Continue to the third school, namely"STA.Cruz National High school" this school does not have an open field but has a fairly large canopy the principal's name is MARITES S. VILLAJUAN, PhD .here is a junior high school and senior high school

Continue to the fourth school namely "Kapalangan Elementary School" this school is only elementary school but this school has a very large building, has an open field, a large canopy, and a large building. The name of the principal here is "Rossalie C. Dez Guzman" This is an elementary school.

Moving on to the fifth school which is "San Roque National High School" this school under the canopy has a fairly large stage and does not have an open field .The name of the principal here is "Evelyn T. Policarpio, PALD.

Moving on to the sixth school, "San Roque Elementary School", this school has a large area, lots of plants for student education, and a large parking lot. The principal's name is "BELINDA B. QUITANO"

At 12 o'clock we had a break and we ate at JolliBee. That is the original fast food from the Philippines.

Continue to the 7th school which is "Juan R. Liwagmemorial highschol" this school is the biggest school in the city. The principal's name is "Juan R. Liwagmemorial High School".

Continue to the 8th school which is "Gov. Oyie Matias Umali" I think it has a unique principal, because the colour of the principal's room is pink, different from the others. The principal's name is "Wajavina N. Catacutan PHD"

Continue to the 9th school which is "San Isdiro Central School" please excuse me here I am confused which one for the principal.

The last one is "Pulo elementary school"

After we finished visiting, we went back to the university to make a new id chard.

-[]Wednesday 20 September 2023 (observation in the university environment)

At 08.00 we were invited to their multipurpose building, which was holding a mathematics club activity.

Here we again made a welcome to students with mathematics study programmes, the activity was in the form of groups, each group had 3 people who would later answer the person who gave the question, here it was very exciting because the students had to quickly work on the problem.

After that we were invited to the laboratory, I thought the laboratory was like a chemistry laboratory or something, it turned out like if a student needed equipment they provided it there, we met students who played hand phone games like we played, here we talked a lot about how in Indonesia and in the Philippines.

After that we had lunch, they offered a lot of food.

Here I chose to eat Cary chicken, it was delicious and the flavour of the cary was very thick.

There was also Sinigang na bangus, this food is made from fish, the taste is very sour and it turns out that the sour taste comes from tamarind.

Then we ate pentupn food, this food is seprringorengan in Indonesia the name of this food is, Turon, banana cue, kamoti cue. After eating, we went back to the room to rest.

After the break we did another observation at GYM nasium, we attended the original martial arts class of philipins, Arnis, Arnis is a martial art that uses two sticks in the lesson we count the steps using Spanish. The basic martial art has 12 counts.

We continued to the badminton class, it was very unique here, because in the warm-up they followed the beat of the Korean song, different from Indonesia which uses a count of 1-8. After the warm-up we did badminton, just a normal toy, we just played for a while, then we took a break because at 04.00 we did zumba gymnastics.

After it was already 16.00 we did zumba. Here we were instructed through the screen on the TV. We did 5 times, sweating a lot because of the hot weather in the Philippines and energetic movements.

After that we continued chatting with our friends. We talked about what young people in the Philippines like to do and exchanged social media, and we also played badminton and basketball until 6pm.

At 18.00, the lecturer and I actually wanted to eat outside and go outside the campus to the plaza, the plaza here is like a night market. But I didn't go there because there was an incident of a student basketball player here having an accident, namely an ankle dislocation. I ended up just chatting at the Nesium gym with my basketball friends. And finally we did dinner together in our mes.

Mr Ron and Ms Emeli brought me a lot of food.

This is beef broccoly. I think this is the top rank food right now. It tastes so good

Coupled with the calamares, this dinner tasted really good. Because the current dinner menu is one of my favourite meals.

Then we closed the meal with halohalo. It's similar to fruit ice in Indonesia but it has a different flavour from fruit ice in Indonesia.

-[]Thursday 21 September 2023 (cabanatuan campus observation)

Today we visited the pesical education campus in cabanatuan, we were escorted by mam Nariza zuares and mam Tereza "we met with the Director of development sport, DR. JENIFFER
L. AMARANTO" unfortunately we met her only briefly because they were having a zoom meeting.

After that we went around the campus in Cabanatuan. We were accompanied by mam "Rosenell.b flores and mam angel" they were very kind, they explained the names of the buildings and the history of NUST, and here I found out that the campus in san isidro is the first campus of NUST.

After that we took a break in the canteen, I was bought a cucumber lemonade drink, there were a lot of foods containing pork in this canteen and I ended up not buying the food, but instead bought a donut. At that time I also tried the vehicle that usually takes students to campus, namely pedicap, because the distance from the gate to the campus is very far.

Then we went to the NEUST field. The fact is that the grass of the field is synthetic / not real grass. However, the field and facilities are very complete and clean.

After that we continued to travel to the mall. In fact, the average student here uses public transportation, namely jeeps, which are like angkot in Indonesia, they are very orderly and do not cause traffic jams on the road.
Next we stopped by street food we ate chicken one day, which is chicken that is only 1 day old directly fried and we ate chicken eeg. in my opinion for chicken one day it tastes a little pait and the chincen eeg is delicious.

We finally arrived at maal robinson ,this mool is a new mool so it was a bit quiet when we were there ,this mool has a very nice rice field view ,maybe this mall will be crowded when gradually

After returning to campus, I attended taekwondo practice with my friend Drey. He taught me a lot of kicks, because he is the taekwondo coach here.

-[]Friday 22 September 2023 (first jumatan)
Today is our first day of jumatan here, with a predominantly Catholic country, we have difficulty finding a mosque, so we asked to be sent to the nearest mosque to our supervisor here in Tabon.
For Friday, we drank a lot of activities on campus, in the morning we were given breakfast by Mr Meik, after which we enjoyed free time.
After that at 10.00 we were invited to eat again in the laboratory, we ate fried shrimp and vegetables. We chatted a lot and talked about the curriculum there.
The name of the curriculum in Thailand is "MATATAG: Bansang Makabata, Batang Makabansa." It means - DepEd programmes and reforms are deliberately designed to produce competent, work-ready, active, responsible and patriotic citizens," he added.
After that, we prepared to go to the mosque in Tabon, which is a bit far from our campus. We left at 10.40 so that we wouldn't be late. We arrived there around 11.10. The mosque is called DARUN-NUR which is imamed by "Kamar M.Sabdulla".

He has a lot of stories. He is a very great preacher, because he has preached everywhere. And it's good that he has made his extended family converts to Islam.
He created a security organisation under the auspices of the police, the R3 Salam police. He made it because he wanted to change the mindset of Filipinos who thought that Islam was bad like terrorism and other bad things. The task of the organisation is to help the police such as handling communities and drugs.

After that we ate at Burger King, I just found out that Burger King is one of the most expensive foods in the Philippines.
After that we continued to observe the NUST campus which is located in "Tabon", we met my advisor's sister, mam juan, who is one of the administrators there. we got to know many students there. The major there is Business and most of them are female students.
Then we returned to our campus, because at 16.45 we carried out the routine flag lowering which is carried out every Friday because of the weekly penunutpan.
After that we prepared our stuff, because Arni's mum invited us to sleep at her house. Before leaving, we had a snack at the plaza, which is in front of our campus.

Here I ate a chicken embryo. It looked horrible, but the taste wasn't too bad in my opinion, it just smelled like salted eggs. We ate a lot here
We continued to mam Arni's house, we met with mam Arni's children, namely Chen, Carl, Sofi, and Erik. I think Carl was very friendly with us. He was communicative with me and he also played Call of Duty mobile like me. There I washed my clothes and the sheets in our room. Then I took a shower. After the shower it turned out that we were not allowed to sleep at Mam Arni's house by the lecturer. And as a result we returned to your campus room

-[]Saturday 23 September 2023 (holiday)

Today is the first holiday here, in the morning we had breakfast at mam Arin's house with mr deric and mam arin's family. After that we went for a walk around mam arin's house, we found a lot of Filipinos who keep dogs.
After that we went back to the campus to get ready for lunch at a sea food restaurant .the distance is a bit far from the campus here .in this restaurant provides a large selection of menus and alcoholic drinks .

I ate lobster, kepoting, and calamari with special sauce here.
After that we went to mam arin's campus. she used to study here, this campus is called "Central Luzon State University" this campus is a big and famous campus, to be a student there is also very difficult.
I think the campus is very big and they have a lake in it and good sports facilities. But it's an old building. It's still a better university building in Indonesia.

On 10 August 1964 Hilario J. Santos was inaugurated as the first university
President. During his presidency (1964 - January 1970), the university reached new heights as an
institution of higher education characterised by a remarkable metamorphosis in terms of academic, physical
and human resource development.
After that we accompanied mam arin and mam tereza shopping at the big supermarket.

Supermarkets here are very different from those in Indonesia. Because here there is a lot of pork and food made from pork and here also sells a lot of alcoholic beverages, especially alcoholic beverages which include expensive until there is one 700ml bottle of drink for 15 million rupiah.

After that we went to the night market. We searched for street food here, a lot of food containing pork. But we were looking for chicken-based food ,And mam teresa bought me a lot of chicken skewers. There are so many small children selling here, our lecturer thinks that the parents of these children are not educated enough in educating their children. Because in the evening hours for children to rest they instead work.
We also rode the "Ferris wheels" ride. For the natives here, they are free to ride the ride by showing the editintas of residence here. And for visiors like me have to pay 5peso for one ticket.

-[]Sunday 24 September 2023
Today I woke up at 5 o'clock as usual then took a shower to clean the room I was staying in at mam arnie's house.
At 7 o'clock we went downstairs for breakfast and then were invited to go to the rice field and some orchards, mam arnie's parents to do gardening.

There I was very happy because I could learn about agriculture. Mam Arnie's parents taught me a lot about how to plant well and correctly. Then I was invited to see the buffaloes that are usually used to plough the fields by mam arnie's parents. They have 2 buffaloes that are big, fat, healthy and well-groomed.

After that at 9 o'clock mam arnie took us to a highland area to see the beautiful scenery. The place is called Nature Peak Camp. there has a good photo spot But unfortunately the weather at that time was very hot exceeding the heat in lowland Indonesia.
at 12.00pm mam arnie invited me to go home (mam arnie's house) for lunch. after lunch I took a shower and rested for a nap. then I woke up at 4.30pm and I continued to chat with mam arnie's son named Azie.
Azie is the 2nd child of mam arnie she is very nice and really likes to play online games on her computer. before I knew it it was 6.00pm and then I prayed after that I ate dinner and continued chatting with mam arnie until 8.00pm because me and vito had to leave early. because we had to leave early for NUEST tonight I had to sleep early. and I slept at 9.00pm.
that's my daily life on Sundays in the Philippines.
